[CATS Nepal]
News Letter – July 2012
Dear Fiends,
We have started to publish newsletter from last year October but discontinue this year and after several moth we are able to publish this, after appointing new coordinator. Let me introduce myself: I am Prakash Raj Bagale new coordinator of CATS Nepal from January 2012. Let me explain about CATS Nepal work in summary and some stories below.
CATS is one of the faith base NGO which lies in Dang district in mid –west region of Nepal which Takes around 9-10 hours by bus to reach from the capital city Kathmandu, of Nepal. CATS is working mainly in 3 sectors (Community transformation, Tb patient hostel and Education programme) since 2004. Its central office is in Ghorahi, Dang. CATS have its branch office in Surkhet and Rolpa also. We don’t have our own building but all three offices are in rented house.
Related to community Transformation work CATS is working in clean and safe environment, Income generation and working with the local church since the start up period and still continuing this programmes. We believe that the local churches are the transforming agent for the community. Most of the communities’ seams clean and interested to continue keeping it up. This impact has been created through the coordination with the community by conducting mass cleaning events with churches/ local communities and awareness through drama in the communities and in the schools. Now most of the communities are positive and conscious towards keeping their communities clean.
CATS establish SHGs of 7 to 14 members in each group includes especially poor, helpless, marginalized and single women. People are getting opportunities for saving and credit from the groups. Most of the group members are working daily as a laborer. Groups are progressing in their business through income generation programme.
Since last 5 years CATS is conducting awareness programme in health & hygiene and peace building in different schools and communities through drama. It has been more effective to conduct awareness through drama.
Education
Full and partial Scholarship provision for orphan, poor and helpless is continuing as usual in government schools up to grade 10. 35 children have got scholarship provision in this year.
CATS is conducting evening programme (5-6) pm in office building itself for the children/youth after their schools so that the children could learn about health and hygiene, to keep the environment clean, love their neighbors, peace building, games and music etc. 20-25 children are involved in this programme this year.
Different kinds of TB patients from different Districts are admitting in TB patient hostel of CATS. It is for poor and helpless people who have to bear many difficulties such as where patient have to walk more than 2 hours to reach the health post from their place, paying high rate hotel charge if they have to come in the central or town area for their treatment. Those people are getting opportunities for their quality care, quality food and good accommodation.
The local churches seem ready and more interested to implement integral mission. They were positive when CCMP/IM workshop was organized previous and this year with them and resources were shared with other faith base organization. We have now 5 churches with us ready to implement CCMP and there is one church formed church coordination group in Ghorahi. They are now in prayer and having Bible study once a month in church coordination group and in church prayer once a week, about addressing social need with their communities. This church came up with a small scale program in community for nine month. Others are in the process of developing program with their communities.
